Boeing Boeing

by Marc Camoletti
Directors: Nick Bennett
Producers: CherylAnn Welch and Marcus Hatch

Synopsis:
Boeing Boeing is a comedy/farce written by French playwright Marc Camoletti in 1960. Set in the 1960s, the play follows a bachelor named Bernard, who is visited by his befuddled friend Robert. Bernard lives in Paris with his grumpy housekeeper Berthe. By carefully juggling schedules, Bernard is dating three airline stewardesses on three separate schedules, without anyone knowing of the others. However, hijinks ensue when inclement weather and a new, faster model of Boeing jet throws off Bernard's careful planning. Robert, Bernard, and Berthe scramble to hide the women from each by making up increasingly desperate lies, and when that fails, by ushering them in and out of the apartment's several bedrooms. Boeing Boeing is chaotic and silly, allowing comedic actors to shine with fast-paced dialogue and lots of physical comedy.

Performance Dates:
Saturday, April 18th and Saturday, April 25th: evening performances
Sunday, April 19th and Sunday, April 26th: matinee performances

Character Descriptions:

Bernard: Male. Age 24-45. American accent. An American expat living in Paris. Smooth, overconfident, and doing well for himself. He juggles his relationships with three airline stewardesses on different schedules. Throughout the course of the show, we see his calm disposition melt away into a bit of a panic.

Berthe: Female. Age 40-75. French accent. A French live-in housekeeper who Bernard "inherited" from the previous tenant. Grumpy, confrontational, and easily agitated. She reluctantly goes along with Bernard's scheme, but finds herself at a total loss as she tries to keep up with the lies.

Robert: Male. Age 24-45. American accent. An old friend of Bernard's from college. Less elegant, a tad awkward, and more easily tripped up than Bernard. A bachelor himself, Robert is in awe of Bernard's ability to juggle three women at once. As the show progresses, Robert finds himself caught in increasingly complex lies, which he finds he has a knack for; he eventually thrives in the environment.

Gloria: Female. Age 24-45. American accent (preferably New York). An airline stewardess. Friendly, outspoken, and not afraid to go for what she wants. She starts the play in Act 1, before returning for most of Act 3.

Gabriella: Female. Age 24-45. Italian accent. An airline stewardess. Kind, stubborn, and quick to suspicion. She arrives at Bernard's apartment at the end of Act 1, and is seen in parts of both Act 2 and Act 3.

Gretchen: Female. Age 24-45. German accent. An airline stewardess. Passionate, indecisive, and a bit intense. She arrives at Bernard's apartment in Act 2, and stays there throughout Act 2 and Act 3.
